Introduction to CAD for Industrial Designers in Fusion 360

About This Course

Product design goes beyond how a product looks. Industrial designers need to know how a product actually works. CAD software is an essential tool used by industrial designers to explore both form and function of design ideas. In this project, you will learn how to use Fusion 360, 3D CAD/CAM software, to design a teakettle inspired by the iconic Alessi MJ33 teakettle design by Michael Graves. The project includes everything you need to learn CAD to explore your design ideas: step-by-step video instruction, Fusion 360 software, and software datasets. Get started and enroll today!

This course contains over 11 lessons outlining how CAD is used in the industrial design / product design process. Over 2 hours of step-by-step video based instruction and supplemental print resources to guide you through modeling and manufacturing a teakettle. No prior experience using CAD/CAM is required. This course offers project based learning for anyone who wishes to learn how to use Autodesk Fusion 360 software to develop a product design from concept to manufacture.

Using Fusion 360 sketching and modeling tools, you apply both parametric and freeform modeling techniques to design the tea kettle parts. Your design process incorporates sustainable design practices to ensure that you are thinking holistically about material choices, reducing friction, and the whole product lifecycle. You refine your design based on feedback you collected utilizing Fusion 360 cloud based collaboration features for live design review and feedback.
